Thingly: Identify Anything
What it does
A plant, a coin, a bug, a mark on the bottom of a bowl, a part you cannot name. Take the photo and Thingly tells you what it is, how sure it is, and what in the picture gave it away. Then it keeps it, on one of twenty one shelves, with your own notes.
Why it is different
- The answer is never behind a paywall. Free scans show in full. No blurring, no "subscribe to see the result".
- It tells you when it is not sure. Every answer carries a confidence figure and two runner-up possibilities, and a shaky one asks for a better photo instead of guessing at you.
- It remembers. A search engine answers and forgets. Thingly builds a collection you can look back through, search, and add notes to.
- One app, not six. Plants, animals, coins, rocks, gadgets, art, and fifteen more shelves.
What it will not do
Thingly will not tell you whether a wild plant, berry or fungus is safe to eat, will not identify medication, will not answer questions about anything on skin, and will not identify people. Those are deliberate limits, not gaps. A photograph is not enough to make those calls safely.
Your collection is yours
No account and no sign-up. Your finds, photos and notes live on your phone, and we keep no copy. Photos sent for identification are discarded the moment they are answered. Location is off unless you turn it on. Read the Privacy Policy for the detail.
How the free version works
Two identifications a day, each one shown in full. The collection, search, notes and shelves are free forever. Thingly Pro removes the daily limit and the ads, and adds unlimited follow-up questions and export.
